The first stage of the Malvern Town Hall was completed in 1886. It was a two-storey Italianate building with a small tower and was designed by Wilson & Beswicke. Five years later additions by Crouch & Wilson dramatically altered the external appearance of the building, increasing the height of the tower.
Major works were also undertaken in the 1920s, and these, designed by Hudson & Wardrop, replaced the original hall with a grander space and included the addition of the porte cochere facing Glenferrie Road. The Malvern Town Hall Conservation Management Plan recognises the heritage value of the extant fabric of all these stages of the building’s construction and aims to put in place policies to protect and conserve this significant landmark in Stonnington.
The Malvern Town Hall Conservation Management Plan was commissioned by the City of Stonnington and was prepared by Peter Andrew Barrett in association with Robert Sands Architects.
