Bank of America, Los Angeles

The Bank of America is an imposing 13-storey building at the corner of Seventh and Spring Streets in downtown Los Angeles. Built in 1925 as the headquarters of the Hellman Commercial Trust & Savings Bank, it became in 1930 the Los Angeles office of the Bank of America. Beautifully detailed on its interior and exterior, one of the features of this building is its banking chamber, which has large arched windows, original suspended light fittings and a decorative coffered ceiling.

Much of the lower walls of the banking chamber are lined with rose marble. Peter Andrew Barrett provided heritage consulting services to the project architects, TBA West, regarding the impact that proposed retrofitting works would have upon its historically and culturally significant fabric. Policies were implemented that prevented the destruction of original features in the historic banking chamber and elsewhere in this significant building.
