Building 640, Presidio, Golden Gate National Park, San Francisco
Building 640 is the site during World War 2 of the Fourth Army Intelligence School. Americans of Japanese ancestry learned skills in language translation and battlefield interrogation here, while their families remained interned in camps throughout the United States. Building 640 is situated in the Golden Gate National Park overlooking San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Peter Andrew Barrett provided preservation services to the project’s architect Gerald Takano.
